Access Vascular Moves Headquarters and Lab to Bedford

New Facility Enables Development and Manufacturing of Advanced Devices to Improve Venous Access

Bedford, MA– March 1, 2017- Access Vascular, a medical device start-up, has moved its headquarters and lab to a new, larger facility in Bedford, Massachusetts. Founder and President of Access Vascular, James Biggins was joined today by Angus McQuilken, Vice President of Communications & Marketing for the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC), Tom Sommer, President of MassMedic, as well as Access Vascular Board members, employees and friends, at a ribbon cutting ceremony and lab tour to celebrate this important company milestone.

Access Vascular is developing superior bulk hydrophilic material-based technology designed specifically to eliminate the source of complications seen with current catheters that compromise care and increase costs. The new 7100-square-foot headquarters provide ample room for growth and includes three state-of-the art lab facilities which have been used for testing to date, and will be scaled up for manufacturing when the company commercializes its first product, the HydroPICC. The company’s HydroPICC, made of a superior load-bearing biomaterial, is stronger, more lubricious and more anti-thrombogenic than current technology and addresses the key technology deficiencies of current catheters, with the potential to eliminate thrombotic risk and transform care.

“It’s been a strong start to the year for Access Vascular. With new headquarters, a growing team and anticipated submission to FDA of our 510K application, we are on target to meet our corporate objectives,” said James Biggins, founder and President of Access Vascular. “Our achievements to date reflect the dedication and hard work of our incredible team of employees, directors, partners and advisers. Together, Access Vascular is reinventing venous access with our novel technology.”

“Access Vascular is yet another great example of a locally incubated medical device company that is finding in Massachusetts all the resources that they need to innovate and grow, including funding for interns through the MLSC’s internship challenge program,” said Travis McCready, President & CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. “The technology and materials they are developing hold great promise for improving patient care. We are pleased to see the company growing in Bedford, further evidence that the life sciences sectors are creating jobs in all areas of the Commonwealth.”

“Access Vascular’s expansion is contributing to the strong and growing medical device industry here in Massachusetts,” said Tom Sommer, President of the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC). “The medical device sector in our state contributes significant jobs to our economy, while bringing new technologies to the market that are helping patients here and throughout the world.”

“We welcome Access Vascular as an important member of our bio-tech economy. Our state has invested in this important aspect of our economy, and Access Vascular is among those entities that have shown they get it. I look forward to working with this key employer,” said Massachusetts Representative Kenneth Gordon of Bedford.

About Access Vascular

Access Vascular was founded in 2015 by engineer turned entrepreneur James Biggins, to develop bulk hydrophilic material based devices to improve venous access by eliminating the source of complications that compromise care and increase costs. Our technology has several potential clinical applications. We are focused initially on developing and commercializing our HydroPICC device, a peripherally inserted central catheter with superior material performance that will address a critical unmet need for devices that lower thrombotic risk and adverse events.
