What happens during the application process when cleared to file?

So after we decided what the description of the goods is and decided on a classification, then we file a registration application with the US patent trademark office requesting registration of the trademark itself. And typically then we’ll wait some months and then the trademark office will get back to us. They may choose to say yes right away and give us the trademark registration, or they may ask us to explain why our trademark is not too similar to other trademarks that are already registered. And sometimes we’ll have to modify the description of the goods or otherwise explain some of the differences between our trademark and other trademarks that exist. And then after that, there’s a short publication period where we wait and see if anybody objects to our registration. And then eventually we pay our fees and get our trademark registered.
